Let’s face it—every teenage girl dreams of attending a concert by their favorite band and fanaticizes about locking eyes with one of the gorgeous members of the band on stage. “Come live with me in my house made of money,” he’d say, “where we will drink champagne morning ‘til night while I serenade you with romantic ballads I’ve written about you.” This is totally what happened to me. Well, sort of. Actually, not at all. I do have a few songs penned about me, but that’s about as close as I’ve gotten to that rock and roll dream-world so far. When I was 17, I saw my future husband, Todd, for the first time on a jumbotron in the nosebleed section of an arena, and within ten minutes of meeting him, I knew that there was no one else for me. A short 8 years later (sarcasm alert!), we were married and we currently reside in Springfield, MO while Todd is the lead guitarist for the band MuteMath.

Being married to a band guy seemed glamorous enough as a teenager, but it can be an extremely tough life with it’s own unique set of challenges. You tend to feel like no one else really understands your life, your daily struggles, and what it’s like to be apart for months from the person you love most. People tend to give you odd looks when you ask questions like, “Oh, you’re married too? What seasons were your husband home for this year? All of them?!!? Oh, how nice for you (extra dose of sarcasm)…” So this blog is dedicated to the highs (visiting cool cities on the road) and the lows (loneliness + Kardashian’s marathon + family-size cheez-its = tight pants) of being a band wife.

With all the trials that come with this lifestyle, I am constantly reminded of Tony Curtis’ words from the classic film “Some Like it Hot.” He quips something that plays over and over in my mind as I count down the days until my love returns. He says, “It’s not how long you wait, it’s who you’re waiting for.” Crazy life or not, I am so lucky that he’s always worth the wait.
